Stretch Marks
WHAT CAUSES STRETCH MARKS?
Stretch marks are narrow, indented lines that form on the skin when it is stretched too quickly, such as during pregnancy, growth spurts, or weight changes. They can affect the appearance and texture of the skin, and many people seek ways to reduce or remove them. One of the most effective treatments for stretch marks is laser therapy, which uses light energy to stimulate collagen production and improve the skin’s elasticity and appearance.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
One of the best laser devices for stretch mark treatment is the Fotona laser, which combines two types of lasers: Nd:YAG and Er:YAG. The Nd:YAG laser penetrates deep into the skin and heats up the tissue, causing controlled thermal injury and collagen remodeling. The Er:YAG laser has two modes: SMOOTH® and fractional. The SMOOTH® mode tightens the skin by creating micro-injuries that trigger neocollagenesis, while the fractional mode ablates the surface of the skin and removes imperfections.
The Fotona laser treatment for stretch marks is a minimally invasive procedure that is suitable for all skin types. It can soften and flatten the appearance of stretch marks, improve the skin’s texture and color, and make the skin more firm and smooth. The treatment is comfortable and has minimal downtime, allowing patients to resume their normal activities immediately.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT?
During the treatment, you will lie down on a comfortable table and wear protective eyewear. The laser technician will apply a cooling gel to the affected area and then move the laser handpiece over your skin. You may feel some heat and tingling sensations, but the treatment is generally painless and well-tolerated. The session may last from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
HOW MANY SESSIONS
The number of sessions required with a Fotona laser treatment to remove stretch marks depends on several factors, such as the severity, age, location, and color of the stretch marks, as well as the patient’s skin type, health, and expectations. Generally, 3 to 5 sessions are needed, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, to achieve optimal results . However, some patients may need more or fewer sessions depending on their individual response to the treatment.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
After the treatment, you may experience some redness, swelling, or bruising, which should subside within a few days. You should avoid sun exposure, hot showers, and strenuous activities for at least 24 hours after the treatment. You should also moisturize your skin regularly and follow the aftercare instructions provided by your laser technician. The results of the fotona laser treatment may vary depending on your skin type, condition, and lifestyle. You may notice some improvement after the first session, but you will need to complete the recommended number of sessions to achieve optimal results.
